CREAMERY CULTURE
Nancy's Notes

Hello Creamery friends,

Nancy's milk jugSeptember means the wonders of fall lay ahead. Abundant gardens are ready for harvest and kids excitedly prepare to go back to school. As these seasonal cycles continue, it's interesting to see what changes and what stays the same. Nearly 50 years ago, when our family opened the Springfield Creamery, we would supply milk in gallon glass jugs to the local area each day, and the cost of a gallon of milk was 49 cents (yes, really!). Times have changed, and today instead of milk, school children are enjoying our yogurt or kefir at lunch, and the cost of milk... well that's a whole new story.

In fact, the last time you stood in front of the dairy cooler at your local grocery store you may have been shocked at the prices. We sure were, and we still continue to be, as the cost of milk seems to keep climbing. So, as a creamery committed to using only milk, dry milk powder and live beneficial cultures (no pectins, no gelatins!) trust that we will 'ride out' these extreme price increases, not cut corners and continue to produce the highest quality dairy product possible for you and your family.

The rising cost of milk is a complex topic with many factors at play, so if you're interested to find out more about why milk prices are rising and what that means to all of us, feel free to visit our website www.nancysyogurt.com where we've added information on the subject. We hope to help shed some light on the price hikes we're all experiencing and continue to nurture an appreciation for the farmers and producers who are committed to high standards and quality dairy products. Our family and employees continue to appreciate your support of Nancy's. Thank you!

Best to you,

Don't give up on the barbecue just yet! As long as there's still sun and it's salmon season there is no reason to hang up your tongs. This recipe comes from Chef David Anderson from Vindalho in Portland, OR and was served at a dinner to raise funds for Ecotrust's Food & Farms programs.
